Awakening – The Church

After the resurrection of Christ, the followers of Jesus had their own awakening.  Empowered by the Holy Spirit, they began the movement that would become the Church.  What did that process look like and how can we learn today to be a church that is attractive to our culture?

Awakening – Hope

When Mary came to Jesus’ tomb early on the morning after his death, she just wanted to prepare his lifeless body and say goodbye.  She was filled with grief and when she found his body missing, she was filled with despair.  But then the moment came when she heard Him call her by name; his unmistakable voice. He calls us too.  He calls us to come to him and have hope.  Everything he said is true

Awakening – Doubt

Jesus’ disciple, Thomas needed to see the holes in Jesus’ hands and touch his side before he could believe his Master had risen from the dead.  Jesus was gracious and invited Thomas to touch him.  He knew Thomas needed that in order to have the faith to move on.  God is gracious to us in our doubt too.  Marc helps us walk toward Jesus in our doubt and allow God to help us navigate our faith.

Awakening – Grace

Before the disciple Peter was arrested, he told Jesus, “I will never deny you” but the story continues and Peter eventually denies knowing Christ three times.  When Christ returns, he addresses some issues with Peter, but in a loving, gentle way.  He affirms Peter that despite his behavior, he’s still qualified to take care of the church.  We don’t have to act a certain way to be qualified to serve.  Jesus calls us all, just as we are.
